自然和生命之间的纠葛似乎是一个不朽的话题,解读者甚多,公共艺术家徐戈也是其中的一员。模拟自然、致敬生命的方式有很多,在注重造型艺术、材料基理、情感描摹等要素的同时,徐戈在作品中加入了科技的操控方式,借机械之力让艺术作品“动”了起来,在如此结合与展演中,打开了“浪漫机械”的大门。

The  entanglement  between  nature and life seems to be a monumental  topic  with many interpreters , and public artist  Xu Ge  is one  of  them .  There are many ways to simulate nature and pay homage to life . While focusing  on  elements such as plastic arts ,  material rationale , and  emotional depiction ,  Xu Ge adds  technological manipulation to his works ,  using the power of machinery  to  make the works of art “ move ” ,  and opens  the  door to the        “ Romantic Mechanics ” in such a combination and exhibition. In this combination and exhibition, it opens the door of “Romantic Mechanical”.









《时间的场 | 徐戈作品集》这本作品集基于2021年在大屋顶美术馆举办的个人展览“时间的场”,全书分为“动”“光”“声”“影”“静”五个章节,收录作品30余件,是他独特创作风格的全面呈现,也是徐戈多年作品的集体亮相,关于他和“浪漫机械”故事正在被讲述。

Based on his solo exhibition “The Field of Time” held at the Big Roof Art Museum in 2021 ,  “The Field of Time” is  divided into  five chapters: “Movement” ,  “ Light ”, “ Sound ” ,  “Shadow”,  and  “Stillness ” .  The book is divided  into  five  chapters: “Movement”, “Light”, “Sound”, “Shadow”, and “Stillness”, and contains more than 30 pieces of works, which is a comprehensive presentation of his unique creative style, and a collective appearance of Xu Ge's works over the years. The story of him and “Romantic Machinery” is being told.








“让雕塑动起来”

学生时代接触到了丁格利、考尔德等艺术家的作品,徐戈便萌生了“让雕塑动起来”的念头。在多年的学习和实践中,他不断尝试,用声音、光影、机械的律动创造人、动物、植物、家、神灵和宇宙万物,当这些或客观存在或主观遐思的意象与机械所代表的技术凝结在一起,一种奇妙的平衡悄然而至。作品《看不见的人》,是从月亮中走来的机械人,精密构造组成的动态人形,讲述着一个关于人在寻找自我存在的故事 。动态机械的创作 ,就像是在创造生命一样令人着迷,但这并非徐戈的专属。

从古代开始,人类就梦想着能创造独立运动的设备。在古埃及,祭司秘密操控着设置了原始自动机的神像,精巧的机械让人感觉伸向似乎会移动或说话 ,这让信众们叹然观止。“这种模拟生命的机制让作品与人拉近距离,我们似乎在他身上寻找某些共通的地方。某种意义上来说,古埃及的原始自动机有助于揭开最伟大的宗教奥秘之一:创造生命。其实我也一直有这样的执念,机械容易让人入迷,但是表达生命的存在意义是我更多关注的方面。当我成功完成一件动态作品时就像赋予它生命,它成了我的另外一个存在。”

"Make the sculpture move"

After coming into contact with the  works of  artists such as Tinguely and Calder during his student days,  Xu Ge had the idea of “ making sculpture move ” . During his years of study and practice, he has constantly tried to create  people , animals, plants, homes, deities, and all things in the universe with sound, light, and mechanical rhythms. When these imagery, either objective or subjective, and the technology  represented by the machinery are condensed together , a kind of marvelous balance creeps in. The work “Invisible Man” is a mechanical man that comes from the moon, a dynamic human figure composed of precision construction ,  telling a story about a man in search of  his  own  existence . The  creation  of  dynamic  machinery  is  as  fascinating as  creating  life ,  but it is not exclusive to Xu Ge .  

Since ancient times , humans have dreamed of creating devices that move independently .  In ancient Egypt ,  priests secretly manipulated  idols  set  up  with  primitive  automata  ,  delicate machinery   that made it feel like reaching out and seeming to move  or  speak ,  which  left  the  faithful  gasping  in awe .  “This life-simulating mechanism brings the work closer to the man ,  in whom we seem to look for certain commonalities .  In a sense,  the primitive automata  of  ancient Egypt help  to  unravel  one  of  the  greatest  religious  mysteries :  the  creation  of life .  In fact ,  I have always had such an obsession .  It is easy to be mesmerized by machinery, but expressing the existential meaning of life is an aspect I am more concerned with. When I succeed in completing a dynamic piece, it's like giving it life; it becomes another being for me.”






“记忆中的屋”

冰冷的机械,理智的技术,何以浪漫?关于这个问题,徐戈用 “屋系列” 作品来回答。从2010年开始,徐戈开始用“屋”的形态,回忆某段旅程,纪念某个人,诉说某种情感。《光之屋》《梦之屋》《森之屋》《风之屋》《摇摆屋》形态各异的屋,指向徐戈柔软的内心,和浪漫的情愫。

“我很喜欢以屋子为基础去延伸和思考,是因为大部分记忆的载体都与屋有关”徐戈说关于房屋,其实每个人都有一些独特的回忆与不可代替的部分,但他的创作并不是艺术家的自娱自乐,只是希望通过一些独有的形态和创新的语言,来唤起一些或许相似、或许相反的曾经,来畅想一些或许拥有、或许放弃的未来,而结果并不重要,重要的是你记起了某件事、某个人,能够因为可以怀念,可以记得而幸福。这是徐戈浪漫的内心书写,化成一座座“屋”来守护。

“The House of Memory”

How can cold machinery and rational technology be romantic? Xu Ge answers this question with his “House Series”. Starting from 2010, Xu Ge began to use the form of “house” to recall a certain journey, commemorate a certain person, and tell a certain emotion. The different forms of “House of Light”, “House of Dreams”, “House of Forest”, “House of Wind” and “House of Swing” point to Xu Ge's soft heart and romantic feelings.

“I like to use the house as the basis to extend and think, because most of the carriers of memory are related to the house” Xu Ge said about the house, in fact, everyone has some unique memories and irreplaceable parts, but his creations are not the artist's self-indulgence, but just hope that through some unique forms and innovative language to evoke Through some unique forms and innovative language, he just hopes to evoke some similar or opposite pasts , and to think  about some future that he may own or give up, and the result is not important, but the important thing is that you remember something or someone , and you can be happy because you can reminisce and remember .  This  is  Xu Ge's romantic  inner writing, turned into a “house” to guard.

中国美术学院博导杨奇瑞教授在开篇序言中说,“对于徐戈而言,最好的作品是下一个,最好的展览是下一场”,纵使“一千个读者心中有一千个哈姆雷特”,“最好”的标准永远难以企及。但总有千千万万的人对美、对艺术、对浪漫至死不渝,徐戈是其中之一,翻开这本书的你,也是其中之一。

Prof. Yang Qirui ,director of the China Academy of Art ,said in the opening preface , “ For Xu Ge ,  the best work is the next, the best exhibition is the next ” ,  even though “  there are a thousand Hamlets in the hearts of a thousand readers  ” ,  the standard of “the best” is always hard to reach. Even though “ a thousand readers have a thousand Hamlets ”, the standard of “the best” is always hard to reach . But there are always millions of people who are devoted to beauty  ,  art and romance, and Xu Ge is one of them, and you, who open this book, are also one of them.
